Adopt Mistletoe, senior pit bull waits a year for a new home after owner neglect

When her aging owner was developing Alzheimer's disease, his dog became the victim of his health problem. The sad situation resulted in Mistletoe being left unattended without food or water for long periods of time. At one point, her owner put the devoted dog in a room by herself. When the situation was reported, authorities entered the premises and took the homeowner out for examination, care and hospitalization. A day later, authorities returned to the home and discovered the emaciated dog waiting in the back room for an owner who would never return. The very sweet but skeletal pit bull was brought to the Society's Tinton Falls facility. Besides her neglected state, she was found to have an ear infection, a swelling on the side of her face, lacerations to the face, cellulitis ... and a broken heart. She arrived on Dec. 23, 2009 -- almost one year ago -- and so she has been named Mistletoe. All of her physical ailments have been corrected and her face is always in the food bowl! We are not showing you her before photos. this is what she looks like now. Her personality shows a joy for life that is outstanding! It is our hope that Santa will have a special gift for her this year. File TF-58410-SF (Tinton Falls) Contact us at 732-922-0100 if interested in giving Mistletoe her home.
