Grenwood SC - TWO Loveable senior labs.....need homes or rescue!!!

 BRADY ABOVE BIG SWEETIE BELOW

Tammy B. Holmes
Rescue Coordinator
HUMANE SOCIETY OF GREENWOOD
|HSOG offices 864.223.2498
shelter 864.942.8558|adoption 864.942.8775

We have 2 Seniors here that have really tugged at our heartstrings. Brady and Big Sweetie! They were both turned into the shelter by their owners.
Brady #22891535
Brady is an 11 yr old Lab mix, a spayed female. She is very gentle, loving, and well mannered. Brady was turned in by her owner, (brace yourself for this reason), because they were going on vacation. The owners said that they were going on vacation for 2 months and had been planning it for a while. Their pet sitter backed out on them and so they brought Brady up to the shelter and just signed her over.  Brady is a lovely girl, at first she was so nervous being here she couldn't keep any food down. We found her a friend "Big Sweetie" and it has seemed to help her alot to settle down and relax. Brady is an older girl but still gets around good.

Big Sweetie #22262611
Big Sweetie is 13 years old and a Lab / Golden mix, a neutered male. He is a great guy, loves everyone he meets and is in GREAT condition to be his age. He is still very playful and likes to go walking. Big Sweetie was turned in by his owner after they had gotten him from another home 2 years earlier because she said she didn't have time to spend with him anymore. She had just been leaving him in the backyard with hardly any interaction. Big Sweetie is a big guy with a lot of love to give.

I think both of these sweet older babies would be great in any home, they still have energy and would be great with kids. They get along great and are now roommates, we really hope to find help for our senior babies. Can you help them?

Jetta is 12 years old and weighs approx.. 20 lbs. We are currently calling to find out if Jetta has been spayed. Jetta is an extremely happy girl that loves everyone. Sheldon was adopted from Animals Can't Talk Rescue and Adoption (ACT) when he was a kitten. The 6-year-old is back because, unfortunately, his pet parent is dying. Please e-mail strictlycats@verizon.net.

An extremely beautiful tabby, Lauri was one of several cats found in an apartment three weeks after her owners committed suicide. The 14-year-old cat is bonded to 14-year-old Lauren, a lovely gray, green-eyed kitty who lived in the same home. Both cats are understandably confused and are waiting at Animals Can't Talk Rescue and Adoption (ACT) for a kind person to adopt them together. Please e-mail strictlycats@verizon.net.

Lauren from Animals Can't Talk Rescue and Adoption (ACT) and thousands of other pets will be available for FREE adoption during Maddie's Pet Adoption Days in NYC, May 31 & June 1, 2014. http://bit.ly/MPADNYC

Gorgeous, gray, green-eyed Lauren was one of several cats found in a house three weeks after her owners committed suicide. Upon a thorough vet examination, it was discovered that the 14-year-old cat had mouth cancer, and she had surgery to remove it. Now Lauren, along with 14-year-old Lauri, another cat who was also in the house, are at Animals Can't Talk Rescue and Adoption (ACT), waiting to be adopted together. You can feel twice as good and be doubly rewarded by providing this winsome duo with a stable, forever home. Please e-mail strictlycats@verizon.net.

To look at the elegant, adorable Mr. Peabody, you'd never guess that this 6-pound, 7-year-old Chihuahua came to Waggytail Rescue after being found emaciated and wandering around in the Bronx. Despite that ordeal, Mr. Peabody is the sweetest, kindest little soul. He has great energy and loves kids, other dogs, going on the subway, riding in a car, snuggling in his doggie bed, music — everything! Mr. Peabody has a minor heart murmur that is easily treated with medicine he takes in a treat. Big things do come in small packages! To adopt Mr. Peabody, e-mail waggyadopt@gmail.com or visit http://waggytailrescue.org/

Shih Tzu mix Oliver loves car rides & walks.

Oliver from The North Fork Animal Welfare League, Inc/Southold Animal Shelter and thousands of other pets will be available for FREE adoption during Maddie's Pet Adoption Days in NYC, May 31 & June 1, 2014. http://bit.ly/MPADNYC

Adorable Oliver was found as a stray. This 8-year-old male Shih Tzu mix likes just about everything, including car rides and long walks. The only thing he doesn't seem to enjoy is being picked up, but what he would like best is to be adopted! Oliver would do great in a quiet home, and would be okay sharing it with another dog or with a cat. Love Oliver? For more information, contact North Fork Animal Welfare League at manager@nfawl.org or (631) 765-1811, x1.

Katrina dog Lucille needs new home.

Lucille from The North Fork Animal Welfare League, Inc/Southold Animal Shelter and thousands of other pets will be available for FREE adoption during Maddie's Pet Adoption Days in NYC, May 31 & June 1, 2014. http://bit.ly/MPADNYC

Lovely Lucille survived Hurricane Katrina as a pup, was brought to New York, and found a home. However, when her human family began to have children, they no longer had time to give Lucille the care she deserved. This sweet, 8-year-old Border Collie mix still has lots of energy: she loves long walks and playing ball, and would do great in a home with a large yard. Lucille is good with other dogs and cats but would do best if there were no young children. If you see the undeniable appeal of Lucille, contact North Fork Animal Welfare League at manager@nfawl.org or (631) 765-1811, x1.

Angel is very laid back, social doggie.
Angel loves children. She is still very active even though she is 11 years old. She has been with my family since she was a puppy. She loves the outdoors. She definitely has her black lab personality of hunting and bringing her 'treasure' to the patio.

Angel needs to be in a large outdoor space She does not like to be caged in small places.

Age: 11 years

Weight: 50 lbs

Temperament: Gets along with kids and dogs

Training: Housetrained

Vetting: Spayed / Up-to-date on vaccines / Heartworm negative

URGENT - home or rescue needed - Charlotte NC - $100 sponsorship money for Smokey a 9 year old chocolate lab that needs quieter home with no young kids

to help SMOKEY please contact:  Stephanie at  stephkulik1220@gmail.com
Smokey is a 9 year old purebred chocolate lab, crate trained, house trained, hw negative, up to date on vaccines, micro chipped and neutered. He loves to play fetch, take walks and laying around. His family is trying to find a better home for him as the birth of their third child causes smokey a ton of anxiety. Their vet had tried dog Prozac and Xanax, and the owners were not comfortable with the change in personality on those medications. The vet had actually said that if they weren't going to keep him medicated, they should euthanize him because the quality of life was not good in that situation. Once he had been at my house for the last three weeks, he's calmed down considerably and seems to be enjoying himself. I believe his quality of life would be better in a calm home where he will get lots of attention. He cannot go anywhere to be an outside dog.  Unfortunately, he is a humper and I've not been able to stop that, therefore, where is he friendly with other dogs, other dogs may not like it. Please share him so I can find him a home, perhaps a retired person, or a couple with a more relaxed lifestyle. The owners have been trying all the techniques I used at my home, but he's just miserable with them and their kids.

Twin Oaks Horse Sanctuary on long island comedy fundraiser! May 18th

Hello Animal Lovers! :)
The following came to me from my friends at Twin Oaks Horse Sanctuary for Older Horses.   They have started the campaign below to help with some VERY much needed stable/fencing renovations and other necessary expenses to keep their sanctuary running. I am hoping you will feel inclined to help them get the word out to others by sharing and posting this message. They are a relatively new sanctuary, though they had previously functioned mainly as a boarding barn with lessons and such for many years.  They have a soft spot for the oldsters particularly and wanted to dedicate their work to the care of those too often discarded and thus switched their focus.  Being relatively new as a sanctuary, though, means they haven't yet gotten as much exposure as other rescues and could use a little boost in that department.
Also, for those who are local to the Long Island/NY area, they are hosting a Comedy Event to aid in their fundraising efforts and that information can be found in the attached flyer.

Thanks for any help you can provide with sharing!

Michele

Elizabethtown NC severely neglected senior yorkie needs rescue now and veterinary funds....

Blind from cataracts, nearly toothless, starved and neglected; Tiny 3.1/2 lb Yorkie, Ginger  was removed from a home that was totally unable and incapable of taking care of her.  This 12 year old blind senior Yorkie has only two nubs for teeth

Poor Ginger existed in a deplorable situation.  The owner being physically unable, to take her outside, rationalized, that “If She Did Not Feed Her Much”, she would require less potty breaks, and nearly starved.

After the elderly lady slipping on a puddle of her urine, a family member wanted to euthanize her.  A Shelter Friend wants to help her but, with Choco needing at least another surgery and Mitzi, who passed, and their medical emergencies, we just do not have the funds.  We need your help to save this pitiful little creature.

This little girl may have many more years of life left, and does not deserve to die.
Please call or Text Silvia at: 910-876-0539, Debbie at: 339-832-0806, or email: bladenpets@yahoo.com      (at    yahoo.com).

Please send donations on our Website: Home www.ashelterfriend.org, or by calling the Elizabethtown Vet hospital: 910-862-3000

“Strictly Seniors” Senior Cat Adoption Event Coming to NYC on May 4

“Strictly Seniors” Senior Cat Adoption Event Coming to NYC on May 4

On Sunday, May 4, the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals will host Strictly Seniors, its first-ever adoption event for cats seven years and older. To bring attention to the hundreds of senior cats who need loving, forever homes, the Alliance is partnering with Frankie’s Fund for Feline Care & Rescue, a rescue group focusing exclusively on older cats, and Cauz For Pawz Thrift Stores, which raises money for animal rescue.

Strictly Seniors
Sunday, May 4, 2014
Noon–4:00 p.m.
Cauz For Pawz Thrift Stores, 212 East 23rd Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues), New York, NY

Like senior dogs, senior cats are the elder statesmen of the animal world. While the attraction of kittens (and puppies) is undeniable, their mature counterparts have their own distinct charms and offer many advantages.

Senior cats make great pets, and not just for senior citizens, but for families and single people of all ages, as well. And when you adopt a senior pet, what you see is usually what you get; while they remain lively and full of charm, their personalities are already fully developed.

Instead of the high-energy play kittens require, older cats are happiest when they have a cozy lap to curl up in and a friendly hand to give their bellies and their ears a loving rub.

There are intangible benefits, too. Becoming the caregiver for an older pet is a transformative experience. In offering these animals a second chance at a loving, secure home, adopters get a warm, loving presence that brings with it that rarest of things: unconditional affection.

BRONX NY - Two large senior dogs losing home - need home or rescue now!!!

Bruno and Mimi are 11 yr old sibling boxer/Rottweiler mixes, who have spent their entire lives living at a local furniture building store in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. They are super social and great with kids and ok with other dogs too. Best Bullies, Inc. is trying to help because unfortunately the store owner is losing his store soon (his rent is being doubled) and these brothers have nowhere to go. They need a home by the end of this month (April).  Mimi (short for Demetrius) is ailing and not in great health physically, but neither have major medical issues. They are not neutered. They each weigh about 120 pounds.
We took them for a vet visit (their first time ever seeing a vet). She prescribed to Mimi some pills to ease the pain in his old bones. When he was about two years old a worker smashed his back with a two-by-four, so he has walked with a painful limp ever since. (The worker was promptly fired).
The owner does not take them out for walks. They relieve themselves in a little area behind the store. The owner will not be able to take them to his home.
If you can help foster or adopt these guys together please let us know by e-mailing us at bestbulliesny@aol.com

Thank you!

Chicago IL - two senior dogs bonded companions need a home - owner dogs - good with dogs, cats kids!

My dog-loving friends: Please share this for me. Jack (male in forefront) and Roscoe (female behind Jack) are in need of a forever home. Both are 9 years old and have been together since they were pups. Pulled off of Craigslist by Laura Otto who is involved with rescue, but does not operate a rescue. Owner relinquishment...new babies allergic; decrease in income; can't afford anymore. Craigslist Posting: "Free to Good Home." Rescue folks know that is not good. These 2 seniors are as sweet as can be. Friendly, good with dogs, cats and kids. Housetrained. A few of us have come together to help these wonderful senior dogs. If interested, please contact Laura Otto - email foracause5@gmail.com.

Atlanta, GA Sweet Olivia, a senior plotthound mix tripod needs rescue or home now

Olivia is about 13 years old, said to be a Plotthound. I would guess her to be about 40-45 lbs. She was found injured by a car, having been shot at, and pregnant with 12 puppies, quite some time ago. She had one back leg amputated.
I have visited with Olivia, and she is incredibly active for a senior disabled dog! She typically runs out of the house to greet me, and then takes a few gallops around the neighborhood! Very friendly with other dogs; she takes a sniff of them as they are being walked in the neighborhood. Does not show any aggression towards them.
Olivia grew up with 3 other dogs, and 70 cats! She is dog friendly, and ignores older cats but cannot be around kittens.
Olivia's owners are losing their home to foreclosure. They have not been served with papers as of this date 3/29/14, but expect them soon. After papers are served, there is a week's time before the doors will be locked.
please email petrescue@ideaassociates.com   if you can help./

NJ - Meet ONYX a senoir male labrador in need of a home!

Hi Everyone, Att'd are 3 before and 3 after pix of Onyx a senior Lab from NJ.  He is 12-13 years old, and went into a foster home in Nov. 2013 when his family lost their home to foreclosure.  He had a bad skin infection, a few other problems, and was very depressed.  His foster mom fixed his skin, and got a few pounds off his achy hips, and he has changed into a happy, silly, loving Lab.  He tries to run fast in the yard and trots like a pony on the way back to the house, all proud.

He still needs a retirement home.  He gets along great with other dogs and ok w/cats, he loves to feel like he is part of the gang, follows you everywhere even if its just a few feet.  He was a big boy in his prime, and still is, but needs to keep weight down to ease his hips and back end.  I don;t know how long he has but there is still some life in him.  He is a real lover boy.  If anyone can help, please let me know, and please cross post if you are full.  Thank you, Pat 609-927-0842 or laurenpets@yahoo.com
