Gracie a senior chihuahua in NJ needs home!

Description: Gracie: Chihuahua, Dog; Teterboro, NJGracie Pet ID: 84495 senior chihuahua
bio: We don't understand why anyone would abandon a senior dog such as Gracie. She was found wandering the streets, and a dog at her age, should be relaxing with a loving family by the fireplace. At over 10 years old, Gracie is a little timid at first, Gracie takes her time to warm up, but she is by no means aggressive. We don't blame her for not being able to trust right away. Owners will have to give her time to adjust to her new life, but we are sure she will if her new family are patient and supportive. We are looking for a calm and quite home so she can live out her golden years in peace and tranquility. We are sure there is a loving home for this oldie but goodie, and we would love to see her find this home as soon as possible.
please email for more information: SSchulz@co.bergen.nj.us, Gracie is at the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro, NJ

Adopt Jake, dog found on side of road, in Knoxville, TN

A friend of mine was doing a dog transport and on her way home spotted a dog on the road in horrible condition - very skinny, dirty and missing most of his fur - just pitiful. They could not leave him there in the road in the cold especially in that condition so they put him in the car and drove him back here to TN. He has now been neutered, vetted and microchipped and some of his hair has started to come back in. Poor thing still looks pitiful, but he is vetted and now ready for his forever home. He is located in Knoxville & the contact person is Jessica at jkateharper@gmail.com.

Jake is microchipped.  The vet guesses that he is about 8 years old -- but it's hard to tell for sure.  He is very sweet, patient, and laid back, but needs some space to roam if possible.  He's been staying inside at our house and hasn't made any messes, but I don't know if he's truly housetrained.  He is very tolerant of other dogs and has shown no signs of aggression whatsoever.  (He does like to go after the cat though).  He's on meds for his skin but he might not ever regrow all of his fur -- it's hard to say at this point. The vet is not 100% sure what's wrong with his skin, but it's definitely not mange. They think it's bacterial and yeast related. He's on an antibiotic and an antifungal right now. Any help you can offer would be appreciated, and if you know of any rescues that might want to help with him financially that would be appreciated too. Breed is a guess but he may be border collie mix with cattle dog.
Again, the contact person is Jessica at jkateharper@gmail.com

D-45037 Big Ben**Pooch with Perks**: Labrador Retriever, Dog; Mount Holly, NJD-45037 Big Ben**Pooch with Perks** Labrador Retriever Mix
Calling all X-Large Dog Lovers! Ben is a big boy at 118 lbs. Ben arrived at the shelter as a stray and is estimated to be 7-8 years old. Ben is in his senior years, so it is physically difficult on his bones/joints to stand and sleep on a hard, cold concrete floor 24 hours a day. Ben's large size compounds the physical stress on his body. Ben loves to take walks. He is good on leash for such a big boy. Ben has the most beautiful black shiny thick coat you'll ever see. He would definitely love to romp around in the snow. He has to be mixed with Newfoundland as well. Ben should be the only dog in the home. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21288600 click link for full bio.

D-46204 Capt Jack: Jack Russell Terrier, Dog; Mount Holly, NJD-46204 Capt Jack a Jack Russell Terrier; Capt' Jack is a seven year old Jack Russell that came in as a stray and seems to have lost his eye patch on the way. Yes, Capt' Jack may only have one eye but he has a big heart and is looking for a new ship/home to call his own. Missing an eye does not pose a problem for this little guy. He won't plunder but will just snuggle with you as you watch Pirates of the Carribbean on the couch together. Please come see this little guy and give him the home and love he deserves. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/22062351 click link for full bio and info.
D-46387 Max: Shepherd, Dog; Mount Holly, NJD-46387 Max a 10 year old Shepherd Mix.

MAX was surrendered by no fault of his own and he weighs 90 pounds. His former owner says Max is friendly and calm and enjoys being close to humans and loves attention. He is housebroken and leash trained, loves adults and children but does prefer to be in the company of women. Please don't let this sweet guy spends his last years in a shelter!!! Please come see Max and see if he is the loving pet that would be great for your home. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/22162890  click link for full bio and info.

D-46430 Helen Senior Miniatrue Pinscher. This senior min pin mix was found as a stray. Poor Helen is partially blind (likely cataracts) and deaf, and probably wandered off and could not find her way home. Our hearts go out to this frightened, yet friendly old lass who just wants a lap to cuddle in. We hope her people find her very soon. If they dont, do you have a calm, secure haven for her? Shes a tiny girl at only 10 lbs and about 10 years old. We do not recommend a house with young kids, as Helen is so small and vulnerable.

In late December, I got an urgent call from an employee who told me that the greenhouse had lost their lease from Suffolk County and had packed up and left. And these two ladies just left Hazel behind.
Hazel was not so easy to trap. She was so terrified, she had hunkered down under the floor of the greenhouse. It took an afternoon, a hot juicy chicken and the help of a professional trapper to get Hazel.
I assumed when I got her home that she would be unfriendly.
NOT SO!!!!! Hazel is a mush-pot! She loves to sit on your lap and fall asleep. She loves kisses. She loves to have her belly rubbed and lets me put my face in her belly and give her kisses. BUT SHE IS DEPRESSED and is NOT eating her food like she once did. She needs to get out of the garage and to be with someone who can give her love and show her what it is like to be inside a house and to not just be left alone all the time. She is afraid of loud noises right now (it reminds her of the breaking down of the greenhouse), and she truly does not know what it is like to be INSIDE a house, although she has NO desire to be back outside. When I let her in for a few hours each day, she just stays in one place. If I put her on the couch, she will just stay there and fall asleep. Right now, she does not understand ownership or exploring.
SHE NEEDS A HOME AND OUT OF THE COLD, WINDOWLESS GARAGE!!!!
She is negative for FIV/FeLV, she is spayed, she is clear of mites, worms, fleas. She was badly matted and her rear area COAT had to be cut and shaved but it is growing back nicely. No health issues!!!!!!!
Transport can be arranged if necessary! THANK YOU!!!!!

Adopt Scrappy, medium sized male terrier age 7 needs new home location bronx ny

Scrappy is one of two dogs that I own , and I have had him since he was 3 months old. He has always been very energetic and likes to play with other dogs. My other dog is also a male dog and over the past 2 years their "playing" has gotten more and more aggressive. I spoke to a behaviorist who informed me that they are trying to battle for dominance in the household.  I have tried separating them but Scrappy will cry, howl and bark until he is back with my other dog. The fighting has gotten to the point where my other dog has repeatedly bit scrappy and broken skin. Scrappy is more independent and less attached to me. He is house trained and never chews or climbs on furniture. He is up to date with his shots and has been neutered. He enjoys spending time outdoors and loves to play in the snow. He has not spent a lot of time around children but I can imagine that he would be very bored with them. A home with another dog to play with preferably female would be the best situation for Scrappy.
Please email joansdogs@aol.com for an application to adopt Scrappy.
I have considered many options and I do not want to send him to a shelter. I would rather try to find him a suitable home. I am willing to pay and intake fee and/or provide his new owner with a few months of dog food to get them started.

Rescue or ADOPT Jake, gorgeous brindle plotthound- languishing in rescue a LONG time in Tennessee with no interest

Meet the gorgeous Jake! He is about 5 years old and is in SERIOUS need of a real forever home. After Lost But Loved Rescue showed up at a kill shelter to rescue another abused pittie they saw JAKE all skin and bones being kicked to get into the kennel. The sucker she is,  she fortunately loaded Jake up and took him with her too. He does great with dogs and cats but likes to guard his food. This is something that is TOTALLY managable. Jake stayed in my house for a few days for an adoption event and he did great with all my dogs and was not really interested in the cats. He is SUCH A sweet sweet old guy and wants NOTHING more than to lie at your feet while you watch TV. He would BE PERFECT for a less active person or a person who likes to hang out with their dog!. He is in a foster with a few other dogs and spends most of his time outside. He is SUCH a laid back dude and I am hoping these new photos of him will help the people that originally saved his life find him a GREAT home.

If you are interested in helping JAKE by rescue in the northeast or adoption, please email lblrescue@hotmail.com

Adopt Foster Rescue OTTO, gorgeous senior hound mix in danger in Philly, PA

Mr. Otto Houndcouchdog (15124500)! His name says it all! This senior hound mix found his way to the shelter after being abandoned at his former owner’s place of employment. He seems to be around 8-10 years old and is suffering from a pretty bad hematoma on his left ear. We can do surgery for his painful ear here at ACCT, but he needs somewhere to recover! Mr. Otto Houndcouchdog is an easy going guy. He likes to sniff, nap and go on short walks, but more than anything he loves to be loved! This big boy will lean into you for pets and affectionately drool on your lap while looking at you with his big sad eyes. Mr. Otto Houndcouchdog doesn’t seem to mind other dogs, but would be best with an older calm dog like himself.

Meet Blitz.  The owners are in their 80's and can no longer care for this beautiful black labrador retriever who is already fixed.  This senior dog needs a new home or rescue.  He has not had much contact with other dogs so a home as an only pet would be preferable.  he will be utd on shots before adoption.  Don't let this guy who is great with people spend one more week tied up outdoors with not much contact with people.  Please email Kelly at HOPEDOGS@COMCAST.NET if you can help Blitz get a new home or you want to adopt him. location is Perry County, PA
