Meet Henry the senior hound. He is 65 lbs. His age is 8-10 with emphasis on the 10. He is great with kids and women and female dogs. He is also fine with men, but right now he doesn't see a man very often.

He can live with other dogs but is not good with male dogs. He is an alpha male and right now, he is with 2 females and all is very harmonious. Can't even begin to guess his breed. Part of me says cur....and maybe a bit of basset in the face....I have had folks say Red Tick but I am not sure.

He weighs about 75 pounds, is neutered, and every ounce is sweetheart. He is a bit neurotic, however, and chews his leg until when he’s anxious. Finnie is 7, a spayed Irish Jack Russell and weighs about 25 pounds. She's also a sweetie, but is skittish around new people. Once she warms-up she is an absolute darling. Finnie has never been by herself and the two of them are a real team, they’ve been together since Finnie was 4 months old. They are both up to date on shots. This is our Senior Girl Gabby, who's owners brought her there in November after having her for 11 years, because they decided they wanted a smaller dog, so they took Gabby to the pound. HOW SAD! Gabby is spunky, in great health for her age and has no medical issues. You will be amazed when you meet her. Gabby is eleven years old, female rottie mix, she is great with dogs, cats, and kids, they said she has a great personality.

Gooser- Ol' sweet coonhound we obtained after seeing it early on a frosty morning in someone's yard... wrapped around a tree tree just staring @ the road... it was very cold.. no food/water/ and could not get to it's makeshift shelter.. it was reaching and licking the top of it's dog box to get the frost off of it for liquid. Very very thin and very dehydrated. When we put him in the van in the carrier he wrapped the towel into the corner and laid his head on it and just laid down.. he was so tired and so thankful. When we arrived @ the shelter we stuffed a box with straw in his covered kennel, and gave him a kuranda and fresh food and water. He was so exhausted but content..got in his box and peeked out at us and every now and then gave a howl of thanks. We have no luck finding homes for coonhounds. Well, not Quality Homes... Sad. URGENT home or rescue needed for senior emaciated JINDO found on street in brookly ny

I rescued Benjamin, a very old, very good-natured dog from traffic last wednesday - I found him wandering in between cars on Foster Ave near my house. He was very emaciated and confused, and I thought perhaps he had been hit by a car. I took him to the vet at the Humane Society clinic in midtown and they did bloodwork and ran a stool sample. The results are back and normal, no parasites, and he's negative for heart worm. The vet who saw him said his hind leg weakness was more likely from old-age, athritis, and/or malnutrition. He weighs 36 lbs, as of wednesday, but his ideal weight is probably more like at least 50. He had no micro I don't think anyone had been taking care of him for a long time. He's very sweet and good-natured with people and so far as I have seen other dogs as well. He is intact, according to the vet neutering will be a possibility if he's able to achieve a more healthy weight. I can only keep him short term and am seeking an adopter or a rescue organization willing to take him. He might be around 12, but that is a guess.

CT SENIOR DOGS NEED HOME - a man named Brendan lost his job and his home and is moving into a room for rent in Bristol next to a day labor place. He was crying on the phone he has no place for his 2 dogs Brodie an almost 11 year old pitbull he has had him since 8 weeks old and Katie a boxer hound mix he rescued from Katrina. she is 7years old. He is desperately trying not to bring them to the pound he can't handle that he has exhausted all possibilties and needs some help. They are both friendly Brendan would love to get his dogs back when he gets on his feet but also knows that might not be possible but he can't imagine his life without them. This is a heartbreaking situation. He did not neuter the male the female is spayed. Sha Sha - URGENT

Sha Sha (14328825) is a schnauzer type mix that was surrendered to the shelter because now that she's 12 years old, her owners no longer have time for her. Poor Sha Sha is clearly missing her family! She had lived with children and other dogs, so she's quite lonely here in a kennel all by herself. According to her former owner, Sha Sha is crate trained and loves to go for walks. She's energetic for a old girl, but also likes to just lay by your feet. She has some minor hair loss due to fleas and her fur is a bit matted. This poor senior girl deserves to be loved again! Seniors decline quickly at the shelter and deserve a chance to live out their golden years- Sha Sha needs rescue ASAP!

Charlie - URGENT
Poor Charlie (14490004) was found emaciated and filthy in an abandon house. It's pretty clear that he hasn't been cared for in quite a while, but Charlie has a ton of love to give. He's a big brindle Cane Corso, around 7-10 years old.

Poor King (14492542), a male 13 year old German Shepherd- Chow mix, was abandoned by his owner when they moved out, and sadly for King, he had to come here. King is not thrilled with being here, and is too scared to solicit attention or open up to anyone--can you blame him? After 13 years in one home, he suddenly found himself in one of the loudest and most stressful environments a dog, of any age, could be in! King would certainly be happy to have a grooming--he has mats all around his neck and up behind his ears. Please don't leave this old man here...King deserves his home again!

URGENT: Bubba is a senior shepherd mix who came to the shelter in the beginning of October 2011.

When Bubba's owner died, his neighbor took him in but was unable to care for him.
Bubba is most likely house broken and seems to like other dogs. He seeks affection from people and wants to nuzzle his head into your lap.
Unfortunately, Bubba has not had an easy life and wasn't cared for very well.
He has horrible teeth and has difficulty eating hard food. He is blind in one eye, from a cataract.
He has open sores on his back, legs, and neck.
They are irritated and because of this, he scratches, which has made them even worse.
Bubba is currently on medication for the infections.
Additionally, one of Bubba's hind legs is not functioning correctly and he either doesn't use it,
or it bends at the knee and is flat on the ground.
Bubba is desperate to get out of the shelter into a home where he can be comfortable in his golden years.

BATMAN! This older gentleman is just a happy-go-lucky shepherd.

While he is obviously overweight, he loves to prance around and chase balls.
Batman is good with other dogs and can be tested with cats.
Batman is likely housebroken, comes when called, and is great with all kinds of body handling.
Batman would make the perfect companion for someone who is looking for a dog to lounge around with
or even a family looking to add another member. Batman is already neutered and can go home today!

Oreo (7-yr. old neutered male) was brought to the vet by his family a few months ago because he seemed sick and wasn't himself...he was diagnosed as diabetic, and the family was told what needed to be done: a brief hospitalization to regulate the blood, and that he would be insulin dependent afterward. The biggest expense is the few days in the hospital, but after the initial care, it isn't expensive to keep a diabetic cat on insulin in the long term. They took him home and did not vet him.

Today, they brought him back, much thinner, sicker, and declined treatment for him (picture was taken today, 12/19/2011). They opted to euthanize him, instead. Our vet and the caring staff felt that this kitty is treatable and that he can live a healthy life with an owner who is willing to give him insulin--they do NOT want to euthanize him. They had the family sign him over into their care, and they will hospitalize him and get his blood sugar back in line. They are hoping a rescue or family is out there to take him--QUICKLY.
Insulin is not expensive, and the vet staff can help teach any new family or rescue how to give insulin--it is VERY SIMPLE! You would be given instruction on feeding and diet. It is also a GREAT PLUS that this cat is not overweight, as many diabetic cats are!
There will be NO CHARGE for the medical care, courtesy of our caring Vet, they just want to see him saved and go to someone who will love him!
Time is of the essence, as he cannot stay at the hospital for long!

Hi Sarah with OCC All Retriever Rescue in Cornwall NY. We took in an owner surrender last Sunday Blu a soon to be 10 year old black male lab. Owner had cancer and can no longer care for him. He is confused but settles and is a GREAT dog. We had blood work done and everything came back great, except he does have Lyme which we are treating him for.
Blu is 139 lbs and is great with people but seems to be bipolar when it comes to other dogs. He does great with most but than when he is done he is done and snapped at the fosters dogs. We were told he was good with other dogs when we took him in. Owner is in the hospital .We do not have any foster home without dogs so I have no where for him to go. We were going to pay to kennel him but he has never been crated and he freaked out trying to chew the kennel's wire, barking non stop.
We are trying to find a foster or forever home for him with no other pets, if you know anyone who might be able to help us we would beyond appreciate your help.

From Max's owner - I have an 11 year old lab that desperately needs a new home. I'm moving and cannot take him with me and my parents will not take care of him when I leave. They got me the dog when I was very young and left everything up to me to take care of him but I cannot take him with me. it absolutely breaks my heart and I do not want to get rid of him but I have no other choice. his name is max and he is literally the sweetest dog I've ever met. he loves children, other dogs, cats, ducks (we used to have one named daisy that slept in his dog house with him) and he's never bitten or even humped anything. he has been outside his whole life because my parents didn't allow him inside. Meet Abbey. She is a lab/pointer mix. She weighs about 30 pounds, she's 13, spayed, well-behaved and housebroken. She's an extremely sweet dog with lots of love, but we are no longer able to give her a home. My fiance and I are getting married and we are moving on Dec. 17 to a place that only allows one dog. Has a little trouble standing up but once he is up, he is good to go for a walk.

For those of us who have pets and love our animals, it's hard to think of ANYTHING we wouldn't do for them if they needed it. Unfortunately, there are some people who don't feel that way, and one of those was Coco's owner. Coco was originally picked up as a stray and was taken in at a nearby animal shelter. His owner came to see if he was there and found him, but when they heard that he was required to get a 10.00 rabies vaccine before leaving, their response was "He's not worth it. Just keep him". Coco is 14 YEARS OLD and belonged to the same owner his entire life.
COCO is located in Kentucky and transport is available to the northeast.

Apollo is ten years old, he ended up at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter after his owner of ten years died. Apollo and another dog, a Great Dane, were left without an owner. The Great Dane was placed in a home right away, and poor Apollo sits in the pound. He is not neutered, he is up to date on his shots. He is not your typical ten year old, you would never guess he was ten, he is very energetic and active. He has the cutest fuzzy face, with a hint of gray. He has gone through some training, which I took him to. He will sit, lay down and stay if you work with him to remember. He does pull when he walks for the first fifteen minutes, then he will slow down and walk beside you, he just needs to get the restless out of his system when he first comes out of the cage, then he walks well. He does get along with other dogs, the trainer and I tested him and we had him in a play area with other dogs and he was fine. Also when I was training with him, he was fine with all the other dogs, and the other owners adored him and felt bad for him because of his story. He doesn't care for cats, but I don't know if he would harm them. I think he is just interested in chasing them. He is a good boy, he loves to have his backend scratched, he will stand there and sway his butt back and forth when you are scratching him. He also likes to walk through small puddles, it is so cute. The poor fellow doesn't know what has happened. He went from a great home to sitting in the pound without his Great Dane buddy, and his owner. I try and get there and walk him as much as I can, but he needs more attention, and has been at the pound for a while now. Three Senior Dogs at Liberty Humane Society in NJ need homes or rescue

Conan (9-10 yrs, neutered male, pit bull mix): is an older pit mix, who has been us since September. He's sweet old gentle soul with a heart of gold. He's good with most dogs but he really relishes human attention. No handling or food guarding issues. Conan is somewhere around 9-10 years. His hips have a low range of motion so he does have trouble with stairs. Upon physical exam our vet felt and rotated his hips & fortunately concluded that while his motion is limited he's not in any pain. Conan is incontinent though. Because of this he has been adopted out & returned, as well as immediately returned from foster homes expressing interest. We're worried that we won't be able to find a home willing to take on a project like Conan & we don't want him to continue to wallow away in a cage all day. (14 yrs, Male intact, Chow Chow): Poor, poor Jojo. Yesterday his guardians decided to bring him in for euthanasia. Besides entering the facility all rigidity and matted, he seemed to be in good spirits. Something just wasn't adding up. When asked why they wanted to sign him over for euthanasia, his former guardians replied that they just didn't have time for him anymore. They said he didn't have any health problems, but that his hips are bad & he does have trouble with stairs, but they just can't deal with him anymore. Even though Jojo is 14 yrs old, we figured we shouldn't just give up on him just yet! He doesn't seem like he's ready to give up himself, so it was decided he wouldn't be euthanized. Liberty Humane Society may not be in a position to provide him with what he needs in his final years, we figured we have to at least reach out & see if there is someone out there for him -- even if his former guardians won't. Jojo aced his behavior eval. He's not your typical stoic Chow Chow, oh no! Although he's a little painful in the hind end & distracted in this shelter, he seems to enjoy human company quite well. He's low-key & loves to have his head massaged & rubbed. No resource guarding issues either. He was immediately sent up to the groomers yesterday to get a new hairdo, & some much need relief. Meet Tyrone aka Tyrus.

Tyrus (14-16 yrs, Male intact, Pit Bull Mix): Tyrus came to us on 11/19/11 on a day when owner surrenders were coming in left & right. When his former guardians were asked why they we're getting rid of Tyrus we were provided with a slew of reasons ranging from: new baby, can't afford, to can't handle anymore. There was also conflicting info on age. It was one baffling owner surrender! The staff did follow-up the next day to try & get confirmation on which age listed was correct, and were told at that time that he could be anywhere from 13-16 yrs. Tyrus's surrender profile revealed that he was regularly left alone for 5-6 hrs a day, seemed content when alone, is house broken, described as lazy, friendly with kids, playful with strangers, accustomed to brushing, gets along with other animals, and has no history of any behavior or medical problems. Tyrus did amazing on his behavior eval as well. He definitely has plenty of spunk left and he looooves tennis balls! He's hips aren't the greatest either, but he gets around just fine. No food guarding or any signs of aggression what-so-ever. There is just something about Tyrus that is very enamoring! I dare you to meet him, and not to fall in love.

Adopt Kia, great 7 year old female PB Yellow labrador

Kia, a 7 year old female yellow lab is in need of a new home. She is well trained, goes "potty" on command and is great with kids of all ages. She gets along with both dogs and cats and only issues a "woof" when there is someone at the door to alert you to a visitor. She knows both verbal and hand signal commands for: sit, stay, come, lie down, roll over, play dead, high five and will wait to eat her food until you give the "go ahead" command. She's a sweet girl who loves to cuddle. Kia loves to be outside: in the summer to swim and in the winter with her snow boots playing in the snow. She is more white than yellow and has a pink nose. Kia is on a heartguard and frontline routine monthly. Big Grey Cat needs indoor home or rescue, senior male losing fur living outside in Phil PA

Meet "Big Gray." He's old and has been around the neighborhood for quite some time he is very gentle and social (wants to come in the house all the time and always rubs my legs) so I believe he was once owned by someone. After I had him neutered by Forgotten Cats in September he started losing his hair-could it be hormonal because of the testostorone loss? Anyway he looks pretty bad but he has beautiful clear emerald green eyes and an all grey coat (what's left of it). (my photos are bad-everytime I aimed he would follow after me!) He enjoys eating and curls up in the makeshift shelter on my back porch. He really needs a warm home before Winter-I am very worried for him since he has lost most of his coat. I really do not want him put down-he has lots of life left in him-he just needs a warm home and a caring person. If you know anyone who takes in old or "special needs" cats please show them his photo. I would appreciate anything your organization can do to help. Thank you-Michelle

Glenn Cove Animal Lover's League needs techs and could use an extra vet for a spay/neuter clinic for the 100 cats found caged, no food no water on a preserve in Nassau. Most of them are not spayed/neutered. I will be there volunteering all day. The clinic will run from 9 to 3 (maybe longer), this Sunday, Nov 20. As of now they have NO techs. They need techs to draw blood for testing and help with other medical needs.

The New Britain dog pound picked-up a dog on the street last week. It is a male, senior black Labrador. Said to be a sweet dog, but he is old. The owner could not be located and his time is up at the pound.

Adopt Lady, an oh so cute female senior shih tzu in NYC

Meet Lady! Lady is an absolute angel that will be a great match for a calm, gentle family with kids over age 9. This 13 year old senior Shih Tzu mix was abandoned to a municipal shelter. When Lady came to Bideawee, she was swiftly given surgery for a prolapsed eye lid called cherry eye, as well as the removal of two benign masses. She is doing very well now and has a clean bill of health. Lady is partially housebroken and will use wee-wee pads. She weighs 17 pounds, and seems to be friendly with other gentle, calm animals.

Ferdinand is at the Branford shelter. He is a total love bug of a Rotti! He likes other dogs and barks at cats (but is too slow to do anything). He is neutered, vaccinated and heartworm free. He was hit by a car earlier this year and required three surgeries, which we did all of them. In honor of November’s Adopt-a-Senior-Dog Month, The Grey Muzzle Organization is hosting a Virtual Old Dog Walk on November 19th for senior dogs!
You can decide what special activity you’d like to do on November 19th, in honor of an old dog. Maybe it’s a walk – real or virtual, long or short – maybe it’s a snuggle or a special treat. Then ask your friends and family to sponsor you and help at-risk senior dogs. You can be on the team as easily as taking a stroll to your computer. You don’t even need your sneakers for this event!
This easy, fun event allows anyone, even dogs who can’t walk that mile physically but are willing and able at heart, to raise funds for their kindred spirits waiting alone in shelters for a second chance at a comfortable life.
Please help senior dogs in need by participating in our Virtual Old Dog Walk today! We’ll tally the donations at the end of the day on November 19th. Lena is a social and loving Shepherd/Chow Chow mix that is energetic and lively despite her age, which is approximately 8 years old. Lena weighs 45 pounds and came to Bideawee via a municipal shelter, where she was taken in as a stray. Lena seems to get along with other dogs and is somewhat housebroken, but her new family will need to continue working with her on this. She does need an experienced family with kids over 9, since she does seem to have moderate resource guarding with food, bones, and pigs' ears.

Meet Bailey. This adorable 13" male beagle is 8 years old. Bailey's owner has had him since he was a puppy. Due to the economy she must move in with relatives and Bailey cannot come. She is truly heartbroken and asked everyone she knows to adopt him. No one would. Look at this face!!!
Bailey is a really good dog. He is not a barker or howler but will give a little "yip" if he needs to go out.
He definitely could live in an apartment! He gets along with dogs and likes to play. Too interested in the kitties. He knows the names of his toys and will bring the one you ask for! How cute is this????
He is good sitting for his bath, he is on heartworm and frontline. He has sensitive skin and was allergic to a plant, but this plant is not native in the northeast. His overall healty is excellent. I live in a world of pitch-black darkness and had my claws taken from me. I had a family once, but was discarded outside in a rural area. I struggled and survived several terrifying weeks outside before a kind rescuer took me to a cat sanctuary in Greenwich. I am grateful to be safe, well-fed and receiving lots of TLC.

However, I’m sad and getting very frustrated. Because I am so vulnerable, I startle easily. Being around so many other cats is stressful. Two months have passed, and not a single person has shown interest in taking me home . I think I would be very comfortable in a small and quiet home, with a patient human to call my own. I was scrawny, with matted fur – now I look great (if I may say so myself). I am healthy, tested FIV/FELV negative, current on vaccinations, and neutered. The nice veterinarian suggested that I be given K-D food to make sure that my kidneys stay healthy. I'm about 9-10 years old and would love to be cherished for my remaining years in a real home. Prissy was surrendered to a local shelter.
Shivering and hiding in the back of her cage...we had to rescue her.
This petite 6.8 lb girl is so sweet and loves to rest in her bed and watch the world go by.
Prissy is 13 yrs old and has some vision problems but sees shadows and shapes and does just fine in the yard.
She had her dental this week and had 22 teeth extracted. She says she is feeling much better now that all those nasty teeth are not hurting her anymore.
Prissy is hoping for a nice, relaxing home where she can be pampered and loved now

11 year old female pit bull Julie needs home - abandoned by owner

Attached are pictures of Julie, the senior pittie girl (11 years old) that CPAA rescued in September from Perry County. She was left outside by her previous owner with a cantaloupe-sized tumor hanging from her nipple. The tumor was open and bleeding because it was so large it scraped on the ground when she walked. Thankfully, Julie's owner surrendered her to CPAA. Julie has been fully vetted, and the tumor was removed last week. She is doing so well! Julie is very sweet and calm and gets along with other dogs. She just needs a forever home to call her own where she can live out the rest of her life in luxury being loved and pampered. First up is D44659 - May, a lovely yellow lab female. May is 65 lbs and 10 years old but very lively and sweet! With lots of love left to give, she needs a home so she can leave the sheleter.

Next up is: D44709 - LUCCA - LUCCA is a 7 year old 70 lb female shepherd mix. She walks well on leash and would love a nice walking companion. A really sweet girl!

Next up is: D43929 ELSA - A shepherd mix with a nice black coat, she is 69 lbs. She is not overly active and loves to please and knows basic obedience and can give paw!

We rescued some dogs from a hoarder last week and got them signed over today. One is an 8 yo sweet adorable Schnauzer girl almost completely blind due to cataracts. The cost of surgery is at least $3000. Thistle was tied outside to briar bushes alone starving with no food or water. Initially I wasn’t sure we could save her. After the vet check, sedation, hours of shaving, bathing, de-fleaing, grooming:- she is a new girl! (see picture at left.)
Thistle is so unbelievably grateful for love and attention it breaks my heart. I didn’t think I would be impractical but Thistle is a relatively young vital loving girl who deserves so much more than life has dealt her. She doesn’t care that she is blind. She moves right along in a hurry to get to unknown places. A bump on the face doesn’t faze her one bit! She is an inspiration. And she just wiggles with joy and surprise when anyone actually gives her love, like it is all she has ever hoped for and her ever dream has come true! if you would like to rescue OR ADOPT Thistle, please contact:

We have a dog that my brother's family left behind, and we need to find a home for her, maybe you can help. We left a message at the SPCA where they got her from in Philly. She is in NJ right now, her name is Bell. First, I must say, i love her, but can not keep her. She is supposedly ~10 years old, large dog, collie mix, golden long hair/white nose, paws, belly. Sweet, beautiful, potty-trained. Nudgy, wants to be pet lots and LOVES to eat. Runs, hikes, then huffs and puffs, she is a bit overweight. We have her on a good diet now, she is looking better. Seems happy. History, that I know of: my brother & his family of 3 (kids are now 3, 5 & 8 +cat) adopted her frm a shelter for ~5 yrs. Previous owner was a senior citizen. I have to say she has been around so many kids, does great.. But she snatches food that is left out, like most dogs. Has her shots up til next June.

I have two old friends who I was hoping to potentially place into rescue. Harley and Courtney are 13 1/2 years old and were originally brought into the shelter in 2010 because their owners were having financial problems. They were adopted together and brought back the first time because of financial issues again. Again, they were adopted together and brought back because the owners were moving and unable to take them. These girls are up for adoption but are unfortunately not "highly adoptable in a shelter environment. Courtney seems to be in good health other than a slight heart murmur that is normal for friends this age. Harley possibly has cushings but we have not tested her for it as of now. Both girls are on joint supplements because of their age. They are both very sweet and enjoy attention but are also content to do their own thing, typical beagles even in their old age! I am not sure if you can help me with these friends of if you know of someone who can. I do not have any contacts for a senior dog rescue. I am really hoping I can find rescue placement that will help these girls spend their last days/months/years together. Unfortunately, as a shelter they could be separated. Adopt Buddy, great senior cat who had a hard life in NJ

Buddy's eyes tell a sad story. He was abandoned outdoors by his family, being forced to fend for himself. Luckily he found himself in the backyard of a woman that fed local strays and managed to survive for a few years outside because of her kindness. But those few years ran a toll on Buddy and it shows when you look at him. He has scars all over him, his fur is dirty and he has an old wound on his hind leg. Buddy is finally safe, living indoors at the home of one of our volunteers. His fur looks cleaner every day. He is so thankful for everything you give him. He loves to eat and cuddle up on a big blanket in front of the heater. He love to be pet and falls asleep when you pet him for a long time. Buddy is a very low key cat. URGENT!! This is Jackpot and his "sister" Sheba. They are seniors. Their owner died, and now they are sitting at the Hempstead shelter, waiting to die. (Long Island, NY).

A good friend is trying desperately to advocate for them. She is unable to take them in due to having several cats and a dog in a one bedroom apartment, and will be evicted, but she wants to save them. Jackpot is the beautiful shepherd x leaning on his sister's back. (lab x) the 3rd dog is not in need. (She passed away a few months ago) .

Today, my foster who has had Abby since June told me I have to find another foster. She had a notice on her apt. door that there is a strict 2 pet limit in her apts (which she knew about), and they are going to start enforcing it. She is afraid she will be evicted. Abby, my 12 year old doggie must go to another foster as soon as possible. Abby needs to be the only dog or supervised with only one other dog (which is current situation). She is fine with cats.

I am at my wit's end as to what to do with Abby. I do not want to put her to sleep. I operate a cat rescue and am not knowledgeable about dogs nor do I have dog contacts. I've had worked my tail off since acquiring her in June. I raised funds thru a Chip In for her to get her examined, spayed, shots and a dental cleaning and thorough blood workup. She's in great health. My experience and contacts are completely with cat rescue work. I am out of my element trying to find her a home and obviously not doing a good job of it. Buddy” is about a 6-year-old lab mix with epilepsy, controllable with medication 2x a day. The past year has been a stressful time for Buddy. His owner was diagnosed with cancer and was hospitalized for two months. During that time, Buddy moved in with a family member until his owner was discharged and joined them. But the reunion was short lived and three months later his owner lost her battle with cancer.

Buddy moved in with a new family that included a couple and their four children (ages 9-15), a cat and a rabbit. Buddy got along with everyone and it seemed like it would be a happy ending. Unfortunately, his new family has a busy on-the-go schedule and Buddy is being left alone a lot which is not helping his separation/anxiety issues. His current family is heartbroken that things are not working out, but realize they are not a good fit him. Buddy would probably do best with an adult or a couple who are home a lot or can take him with them most of the time. Maybe someone who is retired. Considering all the transition, confusion and loss he's experienced throughout this past year, Buddy needs some stable human companionship and an owner who is able and willing to consistently work with him.
Buddy is very sweet and gentle and gets along with children, adults and other animals. While his first owner was sick, he lived with and got along with three other dogs and two cats. He also had many "dog-park friends" and is fine meeting new people too. Buddy is also well-behaved off-leash and loves to swim.

Hercules came to Pets Alive from the CACC after being brought to the CACC by his former family who requested that he be euthanized for reasons that are beyond comprehension. After all of his years of having a home and a family, Hercules was completely terrified to end up in a kill shelter! Who can blame this little angel? Despite his fear and the unfairness of his situation, he was a good boy upon examination and was even willing to have a dental exam. Hercules has a beautiful healthy coat of white with rich brown and black, the markings of a typical Jack Russell Terrier. Hercules is so far from the typical JRT though! He is a noble little man with a heartbreaking story. One look into his eyes and you will wish that you were able to speak "dog" so he could tell you what he is feeling after being abandoned and sentenced to death for no valid reason. Certainly you would weep with him and hug him forever! He is still capable of joy, at his former shelter he was fast friends with some fetching female Maltese dogs. Romeo- URGENT!!
Romeo (A13631839) is a very sad case! Poor Romeo was found by someone who was unfit to care for him, but felt bad for him so kept for a while and then realized they couldn’t handle the responsibility to dropped him at the shelter. Poor Romeo was so matted when he arrived at ACCT he could barely move his legs, ! Our vet techs rushed in to help and sedated him and shaved him all the way down to make him more comfortable. Romeo doesn’t have the best hair cut, but at least he can move around! He is about 8-10 years old, and is really stressed here, but is making progress every day! He’s even stopped trying to bite us He’s clearly been through a lot and we don’t want his sad life to end at the shelter- Romeo needs rescue ASAP!

Bear, the Black Lab mix who lived his entire life on a chain, until a month ago when he was rescued by CPAA. His former owner said he is 10 years old, but I have met him, and he acts and appears much younger. His teeth are in great shape, and he is lean and fairly active. He is sweet, well-mannered, and doing extremely well with his housebreaking. He is HW negative, neutered, UTD on all shots, on Frontline and Interceptor. He tested slightly positive for Lyme, but he has finished his Doxycycline treatment. He is good with other dogs and children. Not sure about cats. Loopy's person passed away and Loopy needs a forever home. Loopy is a senior dog, about 10 years old, and I do not think she would last long in a shelter. I am not sure she will last long in general as she is having trouble getting up and down, and has slowed down considerably. I really want her to be able to live out her final years (possibly months) in peace. She lived her entire life with my mother, who was home most of the time, and is not used to being alone. She loves people and other dogs, and is good with cats and kids. She is super sweet, a bit goofy, and loves food and going for walks. She is housebroken, but really needs to be on a schedule to avoid any accidents. She cannot walk up and down too many stairs, so would need a place on the ground floor or with an elevator. She has been so depressed since my mom died. She is about 60lbs (this is just a guesstimate). Needs a home where someone is around most of the time or works from home. please contact:

Abby is an adorable Shepherd/Terrier mix whose family had no choice but to give her up when they lost their jobs and their home. Her family never really had a lot of money, not even enough to take her to a vet. But they loved her very much and did the best that they could for her and their three cats. They had her for 12 years before they had to give her up.
Her kitty companions are all safe now, but she is still looking for her own new family. She has been to the vet, thanks to the donations of kind people. One kind person had a name tag made up for her! She has tested negative for heartworms and her bloodwork was really good! She has an appointment on the 30th to be spayed and have some dental work done. Then she will be ready to go to her new home. She is a very sweet older girl who would love to relax on the couch with you while you watch TV! She loves to be petted and snuggle! She loves to share your bed with you, if you'll let her. That's really all she asks for is for someone to love her! So if you are looking for a nice, calm companion, Abby has plenty of love to give!
Because she has lived her whole life without spending much time with dogs, and because of her age, we think it would be best for her if she goes to a home with no other dogs, or young children. She does great with cats, however!

Buddy is a very handsome but sad sharpei mix. He is approx. 12 years old, neutered, UTD on shots and housebroken. Buddy is sad because his mom recently gave him up due to her struggle with cancer. (She has to be in the hospital for three months straight.)

Buddy is in boarding and not doing all that well. We are looking for a foster or permanent home with someone who is not away for long stretches.
